The explosion occurred at the home of the Mullin's family in the 5600 block of North State Road 23 near Newton. LAYTON, Utah (KUTV) — Fire crews responded to a home that was producing heavy smoke on Wednesday morning, but they were unable to manage the incident as they typically would. The explosion happened at a house in the area of 850 North and 2175 West. The home's resident was preparing food for her daughter's 20th birthday party, Bitton said. She had to run an errand while the food was cooking, and she reportedly asked her 11-year-old son to watch the stove while ran to the store. While the official cause is yet to be determined, a preliminary investigation suggests the blaze began with a cooking fire. According to Barker, the controlled detonation will not impact surrounding homes or structures, but that the home where the dynamite was found will be "uninhabitable" after the detonation.

He said the explosion caused severe damage to the home, with one side of the house blown off. “They were in working apparently on a basement floor, whether they were painting, sealing, we’re not sure, but the explosion happened in the floor,” Wilkes said. Layton authorities arrived on the scene within minutes after receiving “numerous calls” finding one side of a house completely blown off with no fire burning. A GoFundMe has been started by their neighbors in an effort to help them with medical bills. Wilkes said the man and woman were transported by medical helicopter to the burn unit at University of Utah Hospital. Neighbors with medical training assisted them until police and paramedics arrived, he said. LAYTON, Utah — A Layton man was transported to the hospital in critical condition after an apparent house explosion Tuesday night. Layton fire told me 2 people inside were transported to the hospital with burns. Officials say neighbors were not displaced by the explosion, however, the neighboring home’s windows and side wall were damaged by the partial collapse of the house. After an investigation, the fire department reported that the fire originated in the basement and spread smoke throughout the entire house due to its undetermined origin.

When fire units arrived at approximately 6 p.m., crews found one person outside the home, while a second was heard inside yelling for help. However, despite initial reports indicating there were three residents, a third person was not located. Another woman was safely evacuated from the house’s second unit and a pet dog was found a few hours after the explosion. Officials believed there were no other occupants in the duplex. Officials said the duplex was on fire when firefighters arrived.

Semitruck crash in Washington County closes northbound I-15

LAYTON, Utah (ABC4) – A 77-year-old-man has been hospitalized after an explosion at a home in Layton Tuesday evening. The University of Utah’s AirMed team flew the man to the University of Utah Hospital’s burn unit. Shea's artwork, which her husband was concerned about, is not replaceable, and family members came to the house Monday to recover some of it. Investigators from the Davis County Sheriff’s Office, Layton Police, and the ATF spend several hours at the home where the explosion occurred on South Lisa Drive in Layton. He said the department would work to determine the cause in the next couple of days. “It almost sounded like a very heavy object falling, and then the ground started shaking, so we thought it was an earthquake,” Tiffany recalled.

“Investigators are looking closer at the furnace that has no pilot light but instead uses an electronic igniter,” a statement from Layton Fire said. Earlier the same day, an explosion inside a laboratory at the University of Utah forced the building to be evacuated. The explosion was small and fully contained by a "fume hood."

“They’re the type of people that, when you hear something like this happened to them, you go, they didn’t deserve that,” he said. “I have not seen anything like this, well, where someone survived especially. No, I’ve never seen this kind of damage from a blast ever,” Wilkes said. Wilkes says that while it is not uncommon for these kinds of home renovation projects to cause flash fires, he has never seen one cause a blast such as this one. Get more power out of your laptop battery and help it last longer by implementing some of these tips from our guide. The Utah Highway Patrol says a semitruck crash in southern Utah closed northbound Interstate 15 for a time on Wednesday.

The two other residents, Caryn and Joshua Mullin, were transported to area hospitals with multiple burns to their bodies. A neighbor who saw the explosion told FOX 13 News that he smelled propane gas and heard cries for help from inside the structure. The neighbor said he could not get to the people inside, so he ran home to tell his wife to call 911. Surrounding homes were heavily damaged by the explosion, American Fork Fire Battalion Chief Brandon Boshard told KSL-TV.

The south wall blew off and came to rest on the side of neighbor Preston Tiffany’s house, breaking a window and causing some other damage. The basement explosion “heaved” sections of the home’s first floor and “moved interior basement walls,” said officials. LAYTON, Utah — Investigators from the Layton City Fire Department say a house explosion on Saturday, April 8, was accidental and caused by acetone.

10 Insights from Apples Human Interface Design Guidelines by Danny Sapio UX Collective

Each time I receive an email from you, I'm like ‘Damn, this is a long email! No way will I read all of this’, then I began to read and I'm like ‘Damn, this is so freaking brillant’ and read it all. IOS has an OS-level “dark mode” setting, where participating apps have (generally) dark backgrounds and light text, instead of light backgrounds and dark text. Everything the user should be able to tap on – every button, every slider, every input control – should be at least 44x44 pts in size. (1) A single list item with a label, value, and chevron leads to (2) a page with many options in a list, one of which can be selected, and will show this state with a checkmark. The whole idea is that you have something resembling a list item, but it actually leads to another page where you pick the value.

One Final Note 😎

It incorporates a consistent visual language, including a recognizable color scheme, iconography, and typography, making it easy for users to identify and interact with different elements. This follows the release of another LLM research paper by Cornell University, working alongside Apple’s research and development team. This paper described Ferret-UI, an LLM that would help understand a device's user interface and what is happening on screen and offer numerous interactions. Examples include using voice to navigate to a well-hidden setting or describing what is shown on the display for those with impaired vision.

M3 15-inch MacBook Air vs M3 14-inch MacBook Pro — Ultimate buyer's guide

But if you merely make your pixels smaller, everything on the screen would get smaller too! To balance this, designers measure the size of elements on the screen in points. Once technology was good enough such that pixels were roughly half as tall/wide as they started, we could just use a 2x2 square of pixels for every point (this is called @2x). And once pixels were roughly a third as tall/wide as they started, we could use a 3x3 square of pixels for every point. Carrot Whether is the perfect example of an app that follows strict design guidelines while offering unique visuals and personality. To fit into Apple’s ecosystem, they should look simple, use a solid background, and avoid text.

What are the key aspects of the App Store Review Guidelines?

But with the App Store’s notoriously high standards, design can become a roadblock. Human interface guidelines will dictate a set of rules for general usability. User Interactions fall under this, User interaction is how the user acts on the system and how the system acts on the user. Hopefully, you’ll get a better perspective of the Guidelines after reading this. This is just an overview and I’ll only touch on a couple of topics, so you do need to check out the Guidelines for in-depth information on everything.

It’s essential reading for anyone developing any form of person-focused content. The most comprehensive guide I could find besides this one on making human-readable iPhone app guidelines (besides this one 😉). This is a quick guide to each version’s iPhone’s screen size and resolution.

App Store Review Guidelines

It even has information on the mundane stuff like loading (this properly tells you how to properly handle your loading states for your app). We AppIt LLC is a market-leading mobile application and website Development Company based in North Carolina, United States of America, with offices present across the world. We offer stellar development and maintenance services at affordable costs, which help businesses, grow and generate record-breaking revenue. Remember, thoughtful design decisions can significantly impact user engagement and ultimately contribute to the success of your iOS app. The first thing you need to learn here are the restrictions on prohibited content, unauthorized use of private APIs, and compatibility with the latest iOS versions.

It definitely is a long read but it also is fundamental for developers & designers. Designing for accessibility involves incorporating features like VoiceOver, Dynamic Type, and proper labeling of UI elements to make your app usable by people with disabilities. You need to understand the importance of providing value to users, avoiding excessive interruptions, and encouraging engagement. Familiarize yourself with these guidelines to avoid rejections and ensure your app meets Apple’s requirements. If you want to get advanced level, you should also explore techniques for hierarchical navigation, modal views, and contextual menus to provide seamless navigation experiences. Choose a cohesive color palette that aligns with your app’s branding and provides visual consistency.

What size frame should I use for iPhone design?

Android-focused chipset manufacturers such as Qualcomm, Samsung and MediaTek offer system-on-chip packages optimized for generative AI. Apple is expected do the same with the next generation of Axx chips to allow more AI routines to take place on this year’s iPhone 16 family rather than in the cloud. The release of the source code for the models is the latest attempt by Apple to publicize its developments in AI and machine learning. Current ‌Mac Studio‌ machines use ‌M2‌ Max and ‌M2‌ Ultra chips, so we can expect the M4 models to be equipped with M4 Max and M4 Ultra (or its equivalent) chips. Aside from the Mac Pro, the ‌Mac Studio‌ is the only Apple machine that uses "Ultra" chips.

Some users are randomly getting locked out of their Apple ID accounts

Even something as prosaic as the nature of the family unit inculcates a series of implications that may not hold true for everybody, and may offend or upset some of your users. The best approach, Apple says, is to avoid stereotypes and generalizations. Perhaps the biggest unsung highlight at WWDC 2021 was Apple’s decision to publish a detailed guide to encourage developers to build inclusive applications.

The App Store Review Guidelines cover factors such as app functionality, design, performance, stability, user experience, privacy, and adherence to legal and ethical standards. Designing an iOS app that adheres to Apple’s design guidelines is crucial for creating a visually appealing, intuitive, and user-friendly application. Now, if you want to create great iOS app design encompassing User interface and user experience, there are some guidelines. If you are someone who wants to create the next best iOS app, this blog is for you. IOS app development is trending, if you want to master it, you need to understand iOS app design guidelines.

The pull-down menu (above) is useful if you need to display a fairly short list of options, but for anything more complex, try the picker screen pattern. Switches appear within a list item with the label on the left and the binary choice switch on the right. Because page-wide actions appear on fixed menus (the nav bar or action bar), many on-page buttons apply only to a certain part of the page – and hence will appear on cards.

Well, what you need to do to create a perfect iOS app UI/UX Design is, understand Appl’e design language,. Furthermore, getting to know, proper use of controls, such as buttons, sliders, switches, and pickers, to provide familiar and intuitive interactions will give you an edge. Moreover, it’s also important to understand idea of app life cycle management to ensure smooth transitions between states and efficient resource usage. In an entirely expected move, the Federal Communications Commission has voted to reinstate net neutrality protections in the United States. The pre-training dataset used a combination of a subset of Dolma v1.6, RefinedWeb, deduplicated PILE, and a subset of RedPajama. Referred to as Open Source Efficient LLMs, or OpenELMs, the instruct models are hosted on collaborative platform Hugging Face.

It’s easy in complex markets to use a kind of specialized “metalanguage” comprising terms most people may never have encountered before. When building apps and services, it makes sense to define those terms in plain language. The company has always led the industry when it comes to accessibility, but its move to push developers toward building inclusive apps is truly significant, particularly given the global shift to support such values. The need to develop inclusive experiences underlines the important place apps now have as windows through which we explore our worlds. Give me a shout at I’ll be continually updating this guide to be the most accurate and human-readable guide on the web for creating iPhone apps. This “frosted glass”-style status bar doesn’t add any additional colors, borders, or needlessly attention-attracting elements to the interface – it merely blurs whatever colors are below it, making the text more readable.

The design emphasizes simplicity and clarity, enabling users to navigate through different meditation sessions with ease. User Interactions play a major role in defining User Experiences and both go hand-in-hand to provide users with a seamless experience of the application. Apple’s guidelines page itself has interactive elements as you get to see the examples of everything in a very intuitive manner.

There is no M3 Ultra at this time, but the architecture of the M3 Max chip has led to speculation that future Ultra chips might be standalone chips rather than constructed from two Max dies. Building inclusive apps, services, or businesses is an approach that enables whatever it is you have to offer to resonate with a far wider congregation of potential customers. It also makes sense to replace colloquial expressions with plain language, particularly as some commonly used terms may have hidden meanings that exclude some people.

Some tasks involve a single screen – or a linear series of screens – that you want users to complete without totally leaving the context they were in. If you need to display more than 5, the fifth icons should be a “More” catch-all that shows other destinations on a quasi-picker screen when tapped. On iOS apps, primary destinations in the app are listed as tabs across the bottom. If it’s less important, it will disappear entirely – only visible when the user is at the very top of the page. Or, if you want a minimal status bar over a variety of images, use a background blur.

The best Alaska cruise for every type of traveler

which cruise line is best for alaska

Perhaps as interesting as the itinerary is the fact that the vessel, the 528-passenger MS Roald Amundsen, is battery hybrid-powered. In addition to being a model for cruising sustainably, the MS Roald Amundsen features an observation deck, science center, three Nordic-style restaurants, an infinity pool, and hot tubs. The landscape and views you’ll experience on an Alaska cruise will be unforgettable, so be sure to pack your binoculars and your best camera to capture the incredible sights to share with friends and family. For photo enthusiasts, an assortment of wide-angle lenses, x-factor lenses, multipurpose lenses, extra batteries, memory cards, and even a tripod can help you capture that perfect shot. The ship and her 84 guests will be the only cruise ship in Glacier Bay National Park. Whale watching, farm-to-table meals, snowshoe and cross-country skiing, and heli-ski excursions are also on the schedule.

This 30-mile waterway is surrounded by cliffs, valleys and dozens of waterfalls. Icebergs and harbor seals decorate the water below while Dawes Glacier soars into the sky above. Revel in the beauty of Mother Nature’s masterpiece and listen closely as the scenery whispers secrets of times long ago during your cruise to Alaska. The Harriman Expedition discovered College Fjord in 1899 and named the towering glaciers after the great East Coast universities of the United States, like the Harvard Glacier. With the largest collection of tidewater glaciers in the world, your scenic Alaska cruise through the fjord will make a lasting memory.

Best for families: Disney Wonder

Choose this ship if your priority is to relax, and you don’t need an extensive daily schedule while cruising between ports. One of the best features of Radiance of the Seas for a cruise to Alaska is the adults-only indoor pool in the Solarium. Most ships on this list only have outdoor pools, hardly suited to the colder temperatures of Alaska – so if you want to relax poolside, Radiance of the Seas could be the ideal choice. There’s one exception – Silverseas’ ship Silver Nova has the most Alaska itineraries, but she’s too new to have accumulated enough review scores, so I’ve gone with Silver Moon instead. While the most popular cruise regions in the world will likely always remain the Caribbean and the Mediterranean, there are some amazing destinations beyond those regions, including Alaska. There's nothing like an amazing adventure during an Alaskan vacation, and if you're looking for things to do then dog sledding is a bucket-list experience.

Celebrity Cruises

Viking Ocean Cruises recently nabbed a 2023 World’s Best Award in the midsize-ship ocean cruise lines category, coming in at first place for the second year in a row. The line’s identical ocean ships offer a sleek Scandinavian design, which only enhances the tranquil atmosphere on board. The luxury adults-only line is also all-inclusive, covering meals, activities, most beverages, Wi-Fi, port taxes and fees, spa access, and one complimentary excursion in every port of call.

Smaller Cruise Lines

Some travelers demand luxury Alaska cruises, while others don't mind going less fancy if it means close encounters with bears and other creatures in the wilderness. Some look for romance, while others want to introduce the kids or grandkids to glaciers and eagles, gold panning and sled dogs. Oceania is another cruise line to offer a range of flexible tour options, so if you want to extend your trip with a hotel stay or a land program before or after you sail, it’s easy to find some fantastic options.

Conditions can sometimes prevent ships from reaching the glaciers, particularly in Tracy Arm Fjord. On either end of your sailing, you can tour on your own or book a cruise tour that combines a cruise and a land tour, which usually runs three to seven nights. Almost all Gulf of Alaska cruises visit to Hubbard Glacier and spend some time scenic cruising in College Fjord. If you are cruising in Alaska during the Northern Lights season, note that the Gulf of Alaska is choppiest in September and not recommended for travelers who get seasick. Also, certain sections of the access road to Denali National Park may close in September due to snow, so check your itinerary if that's your preferred Northern Lights viewing spot. Due to unpredictable weather, though, there’s a risk of shore excursions being cancelled -- especially boat and helicopter tours.

Instead of a pirate-themed deck party you will notice a “Frozen” theme on an Alaskan journey. Menus will be slightly different from Caribbean cruises as well, and will include local cuisine like salmon and venison. In fact, many love to cruise with this line just because of the excellent service and food.

It can be hard to figure out which cruise ship will deliver your idea of a "bucket list" experience in The Last Frontier. You need to weigh up the typical cruise experience of each ship alongside the reviews. It’s no good paying for an ultra-luxury ship when you can’t afford it and you hate dressing up formally, just because it’s placed higher on the list. While this guide ranks the best ships for Alaska cruise holidays by real reviews, you can’t just accept that the number one ship is the one you should book. But an Alaska cruise can be expensive, especially if you’re flying in from further afield. So, to make sure you get the cruise you want, I decided to work out which are the best Alaska cruise ships.

In fact, certain fjords and passageways are inaccessible to some of the mega-ships. The former travel editor at Parents magazine, Karen Cicero specializes in travel, children's book, lifestyle and food coverage. She manages the experience portion of the Good Housekeeping Family Travel Awards.

While Holland attracts an older demographic, its Alaskan cruises are often filled with multi-generational families. For instance, Disney characters are dressed in special outfits for Alaska and are on deck during the days at sea. "We were able to get incredible photos with the glaciers behind the characters," said the mom, who also noted that you can order Mickey Mouse ice cream bars from room service. Cicero added, "Disney has the best kids' and teen clubs of any cruise line. They're enormous, filled with epic activities like superhero training and are a great place for kids and teens to make friends." Good Housekeeping Contributing Travel Editor Karen Cicero and her daughter recently sailed on Majestic Princess, a Family Travel Awards Winner, and raved about the ship's amenities, especially the Hollywood Pool Club. "We saw grandparents and grandkids on the dance floor, at the shows, on the excursions — bonding moments were everywhere," Cicero said.

The very beginning and end of the season are usually the times you can get the best deals as well. While June and July are right in the middle of peak season, it’s also when you are most likely to see the some wildlife. If you’re looking at cruises in Alaska, I hope you realize there isn’t a “bad” option. But in this article we will dive into the different cruise lines that offer cruises to Alaska and try to help you determine which cruise line is best for you. After all, this is your vacation you are planning, so it doesn’t matter if someone else thinks you’re vacationing wrong.

Cruises to Honolulu, Oahu, Hawaii with Carnival Cruise Line

Not only does this ship visit stunning destinations, but features incredible onboard spaces inspired by elements of fantasy. Escape from reality as you take in a show at the Phantom Lounge or a dance at Dr. Frankenstein's Lab. You'll find great food all over the place, from the casual fare of Horatio's to the artful eats of the Bacchus and Ariadne dining rooms... The area is also home to numerous waterfalls you can visit, such as Rainbow Falls and Akaka Falls, as well as black-sand beaches.

We help guests find great shore excursions across all Hawaiian Islands. Please fill out this form to help organize your vacation to Hawaii. Airport transfers to and from the Honolulu Harbor as well as transfers from your island resort are available. The ship is staying in port overnight so this is a great day to get in any long or potentially late experiences in. Please note that you should only book the Road to Hana shared tours on your first day in port to ensure timely returns. UnCruise Adventures is the line for travelers who want to get off the beaten path on a small ship with a flexible itinerary.

Learn About Credit Cards

Nature lovers can find a variety of hikes within lush green forests or along the rocky landscape of the Waimea Canyon. Maui's road to Hana is a must-do if you like twisty roads and cascading waterfalls. Watch the sun rise or set, bike down the extinct Haleakala volcano, or visit a live one at Volcanoes National Park near Hilo on the island of Hawaii. Whether you're looking for utter relaxation or an adrenaline rush, you'll find plenty of things to do in Hawaii. The islands have much to offer families, couples and friends of all ages. Sister lines Celebrity Cruises and Royal Caribbean are good bets for those hybrid one-way cruises from the West Coast to Hawaii.

Things to Do on a Hawaii Cruise with Carnival Cruise Line

The seven-night Hawaiian Seascapes itinerary, which begins either on Molokai or the island of Hawaii, is an unconventional one designed for those who enjoy going off the beaten path in an intimate and more authentic setting. Many guests arrive and stay for a couple nights before or after in Waikiki. We recommend coming in a couple of days prior so you can take time to enjoy the island of Oahu and then fly out the day the ship returns to port. Tours with pick up at Honolulu Harbor Cruise Ship Pier can provide luggage storage for the day and take guests on a variety of experiences. Norwegian Cruise Line bases only one ship in the region; other lines only sail to the islands seasonally. Booking early will not only guarantee you get the cabin type you want on the sail date you prefer, but may also get you the lowest prices and promotional booking bonuses (i.e. free stuff).

Must-sees on Maui include the extinct volcano Haleakala (for sunset or sunrise visits or bike rides down the steep slopes), the twisty road to Hana with its waterfall views and many gorgeous white-sand beaches. Maui is the best Hawaii cruise port for whale watching in season or snorkeling in its clear waters. Visit the Maui Ocean Center to check out more sea life while staying dry. The islands of Hawaii only offer a few cruise ports for ships to visit.

Royal Caribbean's 9- to 13-night Hawaii Cruises

On a cruise, you're free to sample Hawaiian cuisine during your time in port, but can take as many meals as you want on board, many of which are already covered in your cruise fare. Why should you cruise instead of booking a hotel or resort stay on land? I probably don't need to convince anyone why Hawaii is an amazing vacation destination. In addition to the free shore excursions, pricing includes complimentary wine or beer with lunch and dinner, specialty dining at no extra charge, crew gratuities and transfers. Fans of Princess' Movies Under the Stars poolside screenings (with free popcorn) and Discovery at SEA enrichment programming will have ample time to enjoy these perks on a Hawaii sailing. For any cruises listed, Cruise Critic does not guarantee any specific rates or prices.

Hawaii cruise options are somewhat limited — just a fraction of what's available in the Caribbean — and many itineraries involve multiday crossings from the West Coast. Only one cruise line offers Hawaii itineraries throughout the year; most others visit during specific months or when repositioning ships in spring and fall. Princess Cruises is definitely the leader in the two-week, round-trip Hawaii cruise department, offering more sailings out of more homeports than any other line. Carnival, Holland America and Viking also offer this type of sailing, but not as frequently.

Constructed in 1998, Safari Explorer was designed with adventure itineraries in mind (in summer the U.S.-flagged ship repositions to Alaska). Its size allows it to navigate areas larger ships can't reach, which in Hawaii means bays and coves ideal for snorkeling or watersports. Here's a look at the eight best Hawaii cruises for every type of traveler.

Carnival Cruise Line Hawaii Departure Ports

Carnival Journeys is a limited series of special sailings that’s made to amaze, starting with great destinations and less-traveled routes to get you there. Board a Carnival Journeys cruise and you’re on course for enriching experiences aboard, amazing destinations ashore, classic cruising flair and more. However, unlike in other cruise regions, travelers are limited in the itineraries and times of the year they can sail.

Kayak out to sea or along Kauai's Wailua River, or try your hand at kite-surfing or stand-up paddleboarding. For a more chill afternoon out on the waves, consider a whale-watching cruise, sunset sail or scenic boat ride along the Napali Coast. When you choose to apply (and are approved) for a new credit card through our site, we may receive compensation from our partners, and this may impact how or where these products appear.

Norwegian Cruise Line's Pride of America is a great way to visit the islands in just a week, but fans of leisurely trips with lots of sea days should look at round-trip cruises from California. For travelers who want more aloha time than the typical eight-hour port call allows, Norwegian Cruise Line has a solution. Its 2,186-passenger Pride of America lets vacationers sample four Hawaiian islands over seven days, with overnights in Maui and Kauai, plus port calls on both Hilo and Kona on the island of Hawaii.

Seabourn, Silversea and Oceania offer upscale accommodations, fine dining and multiple fare inclusions for travelers looking to journey in style across the Pacific Ocean, stopping in Hawaii along the way. Seabourn and Silversea feature smaller ships, more fare inclusions and higher prices than Oceania. The itinerary features two-day overnight visits to Maui and Kauai and stops in both Kona and Hilo on the Big Island, as well as scenic cruising along Kauai's famed Napali Coast. It's easy to book pre- or post-cruise stays in Honolulu to explore places like Waikiki Beach, Diamondhead Crater and Pearl Harbor. You can sail to Hawaii year-round, but the itinerary options vary based on the month you choose. Norwegian Cruise Line is the only major cruise line to offer year-round, weeklong cruises.

Itineraries include a stop in Ensenada, Mexico (so passports are required), plus nine or 10 sea days. Its American-themed decor celebrates U.S. cities in a vibrant, and at times, kitschy way, but a 2021 refurbishment left its cabins and public spaces feeling refreshed. Pride of America sails round-trip from Honolulu every Saturday year-round. As a U.S.-flagged ship, it's the only large vessel permitted to sail this way.

The itinerary is offered in 2024 and 2025 on the 2,650-passenger Koningsdam and 1,432-passenger Zaandam. A beautiful, trendy city in coastal Southern California, Long Beach is the ultimate playground perched on the Pacific Ocean. Cruise to or from Long Beach and enjoy its rich history and adventurous excursions. This is the only stop on the cruise where a tender boat is utilized. The views are spectacular and the historic town is a nice place to stroll for a bit. Once you've decided how you want to cruise Hawaii, you can seek out the best cruise fares so you're ready to say "Aloha!" to an incredible vacation when the right deal pops up.

One of the very best experiences (on an island full of great places to see) is to take a helicopter ride around to see canyons, waterfalls, craters and the famed Na Pali Coast. The experiences and sightseeing tours from this location are short and rich in culture and history of the area. Unfortunately, the rides tend to be long and the stops short due to time constraints. At Alchemy Bar® we make drinks into art, while the laid-back RedFrog Pub™ has "Caribbean cool" down to a science. And up in SkyBox™ Sports Bar, we've combined luxury-box comfort with the up-close view from the 50-yard line.

Follow our social media and blog for the latest cruise and travel news, including our best vacation deals. You’ve probably already sampled the famous local export — the coffee — so now dive deep into Hawaiian history on a Carnival cruise to Kona. While sailing the sunny, leeward side of the Big Island of Hawaii, you can tour a Hawaiian royal palace, see the first Christian church in Hawaii, and explore an ancient Hawaiian sanctuary. The black-lava coast of Kona, Hawaii, is ideal for deep sea fishing, snorkeling, scuba diving, and kayaking—all fueled with strong Kona Coast coffee. The second port of call gives you a chance to check out this historic town and visit an active volcano. Most guests will take a full day sightseeing tour to visit Volcanoes National Park, a black sand beach, waterfalls and more sights around Hilo.

‎Cruise Countdown & Picker on the App Store

carnival cruise countdown

Depending on your itinerary your ship may change its time zone and update the Ship Time. Confusingly, this can happen even though the ship hasn’t entered a new time zone. Even if none of your smart devices are showing a change.

How to Install Countdown Widgets

I scheduled a dinner at the steakhouse (which I highly recommend) for a party of 12. A few minutes after reserving everyone, it pushed a notification to everyone’s app letting them know they have a reservation. You can also see what other people in your party at interested in attending. It a nice app as long as you are connected to their wifi. To be clear you do NOT need to purchase the wifi plan to use this. You simply connect to their on board wifi and it functions with all features.

Amazing Cruise App

You can get the forecast for every day of your cruise. When you receive a message, your smartphone should give you a pop-up notification. If you want to do that, you will need at least the Social Plan Internet package – but check out this amazing little free iMessage hack we discovered.

Works well when wifi works

When first introduced around 2015, the app was a little bit of a pain to use. Since then, the Carnival Hub App has transitioned into a really useful App to use during your cruise. Free expert cruise tips and news from Cruise Hive! We'll send you the latest cruise updates daily to your inbox.

So I’ll try to address all the questions I am asked about it. Surprise, surprise, it suddenly looks very different as all the onboard features are unlocked. Before your cruise, the App is very limited and is essentially just a portal for their main website. However, it still helps you plan and prepare for your cruise. Just expect to end up back on Carnival’s website and NOT on the App. Once you have successfully downloaded the app to your smartphone, you should see a new App Icon that looks like this.

Towards the aft of the ship, you will find the famous Alchemy Bar and the Limelight Lounge. The countdown to Carnival Cruise Line's Mardi Gras cruise ship continues with a look at the Bars and Lounges. The following features are available at the touch of your fingertips, before your cruise and while on board your Carnival ship. Large Widgets show the same information as the medium, but also includes a handy packing list. If you want the ability to check off and edit items, then check out the packing list widget. As well as the reservations, you can even order food and drinks to be delivered to wherever you are on the ship.

Should I Download the Carnival Hub App Before My Cruise?

Using the chat feature is great for situations like that. Or for keeping in touch with the kids when they are at their activities. I’ve lost count of the number of times my wife has headed up to the pool deck ahead of me. I then completed endless loops of the deck looking for her only to discover she was one deck up from where she said she was. The chat feature is a way for friends to keep in touch while on board. The Hub Chat feature does seem to cause some confusion with both new and experienced cruisers.

While Grand Central and the French Quarter will be highlights for many that enjoy a night out, it doesn’t mean that Carnival has forgotten about the rest of Mardi Gras. The cruise line has managed to cram fun into every corner of the vessel. While not as big as Grand Central, the French Quarter is undoubtedly something worth checking out. Deck 7 of Grand Central is the place to be for those that like to place a bet as stretched out from the Atrium to the Mardi Gras theatre is the casino.

I’ve downloaded the Carnival Hub Application – now what do I do?

No matter where you go onboard Mardi Gras, you will find a bar and some form of entertainment. Some features are available before your cruise but more functionalities become available once on board your Carnival ship. Carnival’s product team is continually working on new and improved updates to the HUB App.

Closer to the date of your cruise you will also be able to use it to complete check-in. The Carnival Hub App is an application designed primarily for smartphones. The developer, Carnival Cruise Lines, indicated that the app’s privacy practices may include handling of data as described below.

The reason they do this is for operational reasons. It may make sense for them to switch time zones prior to them passing into or leaving a time zone. The app will always conveniently show you the ship’s time at the top of the menus. Firstly, you can use the app to help you get organized before your cruise. You can pre-order shore excursions and onboard services such as Drink Packages and Spa Treatments. If you are planning a cruise with Carnival or have just booked one, you will very quickly see prompts for you to download the Carnival Hub App.

If you haven’t booked directly with Carnival, you can use the “Enter with Booking #” login option and then follow the prompts. You do not need to pay for any of the cruise Wifi packages to access the app. The application is optimized to run on smartphones. But it will also run on your Apple iPad or Google Chromebook or Tablet. You should download the CarnivalHub App before your cruise. If I lost my way on board, I would need to find an elevator area to see the Ship’s layout to figure out what deck I needed to be on next.
